Finding Forrester....

Agoraphobia is an anxiety order, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. The people going through this phobia avoid meeting people and places where they have to deal with public. Such patients are confined to their home only, as they only consider their home to be safe. The movie 'Finding Forrester' is based on the fictitious character, William Forrester who was suffering from the above mentioned phobia and so was J.B Salinger an American author on whom the story is based. The character of William Forrester is similar to that of J.D. Salinger in the following ways...
1.Both Forrester and Salinger are notoriously isolated authors.
2.In the movie Forrester blocked a biography of himself that the character Prof. Robert Crawford was going to have published. Salinger did the same thing through a lawsuit against Ian Hamilton.
3.Both wrote only one book that became wildly popular: Salinger’s "the Catcher in the Rye" and Forrester's Avalon Landing.
4.In his Glass family stories, Salinger's narrator, Buddy Glass, is obsessed with his dead older brother Seymour and even in the movie Forrester also has a brother who is dead.
5.According to the the screenwriter Mike Rich, the inspiration behind the story was the antisocial persona of some American authors including Salinger and Thomas Pynchon.

An enemy within...

The meaning of 'enemy' in terms of the essay "Shooting an elephant" means a hostile group of people.

This story dates back to the time when the anti-European feeling was extremely strong among the Burmese,as they were oppressed by the British.George Orwell even though being a white man himself had a sincere hatred for the British imperialism, deep down inside he did not hate the Burmese but was was humiliated by them time to time which made him feel insecure around them, but somewhere he knew his real enemy was the 'British ego' which forced him shoot the elephant otherwise he would have made a fool of himself amidst the natives of Burma which he certainly didnt wanted to happen.

Arghhhhhhh.....rafting!!

The so not awaited day of my summer vacations finally came. I was going rafting with my family and was not very thrilled about it,but my dad somehow convinced me,that the trip won't be a boring one as he knew all about rafting.

The river sparkled like stars as the Sun shone on it.I went in the water wearing my life jacket but it got drenched which was adequate to make me more furious. My father showed us a few techniques regarding rafting after which we we munched on some scrumptious snacks which my mom made of course:p along with drinks. The day turned out to be fine but I still think I could have spent it doing something much much better=)
